The
Otis Mountain Music festival is a benefit festival in
it's sixth year, and this one promises to be the best
yet! It is staffed and organized 100% by volunteers and
all profits go to great regional causes like the Arts
Council of the Northern Adirondacks and Habitat for
Humanity. The setting is a beautiful old community ski
hill in Elizabethtown, NY with picturesque views and
great camping spots.
For 2008, national
recording artist Cadillac Sky will be combining Celtic,
country, and bluegrass for a high energy sound not to be
missed. This band was nominated in 2008 for an IBMA
award for Emerging Artist of the Year. Also joining the
festival this year is the 2008 Grammy Nominee, The Green
Cards, who bring a deep respect for tradition while
combining American, New Grass, and Roots music. This
band has toured with the likes of Bob Dylan, Willie
Nelson, Patty Griffin, Darrell Scott and Lyle Lovett and
is sure to engage the audience as it has done around the
entire country. Another young band, The Biscuit Burners,
also joins the lineup this year giving an Appalachian
voice to bluegrass, Americana, and jazz styles by
producing their own brand of “Fiery Mountain Music”. This
year’s festival also features national recording artists
Blue Moon Rising and a gathering of excellent regional
bands such as Jim Gaudet and the Rail Road Boys, and
Adrenaline Hayride. The
host band—Big Spike will be there for its fourth
straight year, along the Charismatic “Diz” as MC. With
the entire band lineup, the flavor this year will be
high energy, crossover music that will appeal to a broad
range of music fans from country to acoustic rock,
without disappointing the loyal bluegrass crowd.
General
Composites, in Westport NY continues to be the driving
sponsor behind the event, although other major sponsors
are being sought. “The only way to pull something of
this scale off in a small community is through
significant sponsor activity, and we could really use
the help” says the organizer. “Its also is a great
opportunity to help in the community and gain
significant positive exposure”. Companies or individuals
interested in helping sponsor the festival can contact
Jeff Allott at General Composites at 518-963-7333. They
are also looking for interesting craft and food vendors.
